The Mushroom Swiss Burger

“When I was invited to participate in this year’s Burger Wars I was surprised when my assignment was handed out. The Mushroom Swiss Burger at Jak’s diner. I knew Jak’s diner as the all-day breakfast spot. The morning after the night before remedy from the college and university day’s… I didn’t know it for its lunch and dinner menu or as the home of potentially the best burger in town. Chris and his team were there to greet me along with Kenny and some of his team from L’Arche Sudbury. Jak’s is bright, clean and the staff were super friendly and fun. They made Kenny and I feel welcome and accommodated our request to have both of us share our test for the Mushroom Swiss. Every good burger is messy and the Mushroom Swiss was no exception. Chris uses 30% ground beef so the two patties are juicy and full (little shrinkage). Kenny and I ordered it with the works which I recommend. The lettuce, tomato, pickles (the salad side of the burger) was crisp, cool and crunchy and blended well with the Swiss and mushrooms which were not overpowering. The burger is full but not too big to manage. The patties are smashed so you can fit your mouth around it and at the end it won’t feel like led in your stomach. Jak’s Mushroom Swiss got two thumbs up from Kenny and I. Think Jak’s for the burger, not just the all day breakfast. Get out, try this delicious homemade marvel and support L’Arche and their mission to make known the gifts of people with developmental disabilities, revealed through mutually transforming relationships.”
